How does one receive training for ultralights if they can only carry one person? Wouldn't the characteristics of an ultralight make transitioning from a heavier, two-person aircraft tricky?

EAA has some good material on ultralight training.  You can check it out here.

Thank you for the link and the encouragement. There's no way in you-know-where I'm going to try to fly ANYTHING without training, manned or otherwise.

Be sure to find a source or instructor aware of “Low Mass / High Drag” flight characteristics.  If you lose an engine, you may have to point down at a steep angle, immediately.

There are two seat “fat ultralights” that are now registered as Light Sport.

I've trained people in a couple.  But also turned down several due to unsafe engines.
