What medical issues could make it harder or prevent me from getting certificate?
AOPA Staff Answer
Using an FAA non-allowed medication will prevent medical certification. Additionally, there are 15 disqualifying conditions requiring self-grounding until the FAA has approved a special issuance medical certificate. These conditions are serious psychological, substance abuse and dependence concerns, cardiac and neurological conditions. There are other conditions, per FAA policy, also requiring approval, such as traumatic brain injury, ADHD and mild depression, and some cancers. This is not a full list of conditions requiring approval, but examples of some that can delay the medical certification process.
