FAA turn around

I have been engage with the FAA for 4 YEARS now waiting for my First Class Medical so I can make the career change I've been hoping for for many years. I recently completed an insane amount of testing, hoop-jumping, psychiatric, neuropsychological, cardiological and other testing to satisfy them. Apparently I am now finished with all of the components of the process and am just about ready to submit my final package. Question is: how long is the turn around now with COVID-19? This has been a frustratingly long and expensive experience and I'm very very ready for it to be over- can anyone tell me what the time frame for hearing back from the FAA these days is? Should I expect to wait until Christmas?

Hi Raymond

One thing I wanted to add to Bruce's comments. If the FAA is requesting "current" reports or testing, the FAA deems 90 days or less as current, keep this in mind when you are preparing your documents. In addition it is a good idea to keep copies of all documents sent to the FAA and when sending them do so in a manner for which you can get proof of receipt ie: certified mail with return receipt. This will give you the piece of mind of knowing when your documents were received.

I applied for waivers on my Class lll medical due to a heart murmur.  After completing all the required tests I sent the entire package to the Oklahoma FAA Office in July 2020; certified with return receipt.  It is now the end of September 2020 and no response and the (small green USPS) received receipt  has not been returned.  I have called the Medical Office and no one answers the phone.  I have sent a letter and no response.  I'm not sure what my next course of action is to get any feed back from the FAA.   Thanks for any input.

If your scores are clearly in the normal range, 6 weeks from the time they are scanned.  But bad news: the support contractor is a full 4 weeks behind in scanning anything received.  If you have some scores in the 6th to 15th percentile, expect long delays as it isn't straightforward.

I believe the package is being sent to Oak City. It’s basically asking for a redo of the Neuropsych and updated character letter. All are completed. Do you have any insight about A time line for hearing back?

It depends on how your last letter is worded, and whether the work has been done, and whether OKC or in Washington DC.
