The official standard for Third Class is 20/40 in each eye separately with or without correction. If correction is required, the corrective lenses must be worn while flying. However, there is a protocol to allow pilots who meet the standard in one eye only to obtain a Statement of Demonstrated Ability (aka "waiver"j and get a Third Class despite the problem See:
