FAA SSRI policy

The AME Guide includes a Decision Path that “suggests” that after discontinuing an SSRI for 60 days that a regular issuance medical might be possible.  Although factually correct, in reality, the likelihood of a regular issuance after using an antidepressant is very unlikely as cases involving depression/anxiety requiring therapeutic meds are special issuances.  I have pointed out the language in the Decision Path 1 flowchart and the FAA agrees.  That may not change the language however, so just expect the FAA to ask for a complete HIMS evaluation for any medical history involving SSRI use of more than about six months for a diagnosis other than “situational depression, adjustment disorder with depressed mood, or minor depression.”
