Can I fly over sporting events?
AOPA Staff Answer
It depends on what type of event. For many years, there has been a TFR in place (the current one is 7/4319) restricting flight up to and including 3,000 feet agl and within a 3 mile radius of any NFL football, NCAA football, MLB baseball, and NASCAR, Indy, or Champ auto racing venue with a seating capacity of 30,000 or more. The TFR is in place from one hour before start to one hour after completion. ATC approval is required to transit or enter. Otherwise, there are no specific restrictions for sporting event overflight other than minimum altitudes that must be maintained.
