Medical for commercial sightseeing flights

Answered By AOPA
I’m a commercial pilot and have an opportunity to do some sightseeing flights for a local operator. I’m under 40 and got a first class medical 16 months ago. Do I still have 2nd class medical privileges or do I need to get a new 1st or 2nd class medical?

You currently have third class medical privileges and would be required to get a new 1st or 2nd before exercising your commercial privileges. FAR 61.23 https://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=eb75c9ea00f7b2b453bb60fc4f36cfa2&mc=true&node=se14.2.61_123&rgn=div8 is the reference for all your medical duration questions.

Basically, regardless of age or original medical certificate level, Second Class privileges expire 12 calendar months after the exam date.
