Life in the Fast Lane Episode 10
All - do you update your standby databases with data that hasn't reached its effective date yet? Is there any consequence of this? In my case (G1000), if I let the system do it, it sometimes causes some issues..

LIFL Ep10; KCDW to KMPV Montpelier, VT

When the G1000 boots up, it displays the effective dates of in the active and standby databases and asks you to choose which you want.  That's an important check.  If you don't choose within some number of seconds (10? 30? I forget which) it makes the choice for you, and that might be the wrong choice.  in any event, using a database before it becomes effective can cause real problems, potentially wiping out data which is still effective or leading you to use data which is not effective yet.

Thanks for reaching out. Yeah - aware of that. What happened in this circumstance was that I put the update in the standby slot in the MFD (because it was not current yet) and then while airborne it decided to update the PFD's, causing the TAWS and SynVis to go off line. If you watch later in the video, they return (although I didnt notice and therefore didnt make a big issue out of it). I just used that occurrence because there weren't as many interesting moments in this episode and I wanted to have something to discuss.

I'm not watching a half-hour music concert video to find a minute of aviation information.

Whoa!!! Easy trigger! Did you watch it? It is (by far) primarily flying and flight planning (as are all of my videos). If you dont like the 6 minutes of human interest stuff, just FF.
