LIFL Ep10; KCDW to KMPV Montpelier, VT
Quick up and back from Caldwell, NJ to Montpelier, VT (KCDW to KMPV) for Eaglemania appearance at the Barre Opera House. A database update procedural error results in loss of synvis and terrain warning system. Return at night well past when the tower closes.
Jonathan Weiswasser:
All - do you update your standby databases with data that hasn't reached its effective date yet? Is there any consequence of this? In my case (G1000), if I let the system do it, it sometimes causes some issues..
When the G1000 boots up, it displays the effective dates of in the active and standby databases and asks you to choose which you want. That's an important check. If you don't choose within some number of seconds (10? 30? I forget which) it makes the choice for you, and that might be the wrong choice. in any event, using a database before it becomes effective can cause real problems, potentially wiping out data which is still effective or leading you to use data which is not effective yet.
Jonathan Weiswasser:
If you watch later in the video, they return (although I didnt notice and therefore didnt make a big issue out of it).
I'm not watching a half-hour music concert video to find a minute of aviation information.
