The 2019 Fly-In season kicks off at AOPA’s headquarters in Frederick, Maryland, at Frederick Municipal Airport. Special events are being planned to include a Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) Invitational Competition to showcase the skills and aircraft of backcountry flying and an engaging Friday night aviator’s party. And, at the Frederick, Maryland, event, just days before AOPA’s official eightieth anniversary on May 15, the D-Day Squadron’s C–47s will make a special appearance before they prepare to fly to Normandy, France, for the seventy-fifth anniversary of D-Day.
Frederick County has a rich Civil War history that can excite any history buff! Visit a number of historic sites from the Battle of Monocacy to nearby Antietam. If history isn’t for you, visit Frederick’s revitalized downtown to experience a plethora of shopping and restaurants. For those who love the outside, tour one of our many local wineries and parks to hike, bike and fish.
Frederick is also a suburb of both Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Plan to bring your family and tour the Nation’s Capital and stop by the Smithsonian Air & Space Udvar Hazy Museum. Or head north to see the trendy Inner Harbor and National Aquarium in Baltimore.
